How the US president lied under oath that he didn’t have sex with Monica Lewinsky

Exactly 25 years ago, then US President Bill Clinton issued a statement in response to the sex scandal that broke out with 22-year-old White House employee Monica Lewinsky.

Clinton said: “I did not have sexual relations with this woman, Ms. Lewinsky.”

Months later, he admitted that he did have a “wrong” relationship with Lewinsky and justified the lie by wanting to protect his family and himself from shame.

After that, Clinton was accused of perjury and obstruction of justice, and the phrase Oral Office (from the Oval Office in the White House – Ed.) entered the local media lexicon.

In December 1998, the House of Representatives impeached Clinton. However, in February 1999, after a long trial in the Senate, the current US president was acquitted.

In 2020, at the age of 71, ex-employee of the White House and the Pentagon, Linda Tripp, who revealed the love affair of former US President Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinsky, died.

Shortly before this, Clinton admitted why he was having an affair with Monica Lewinsky. As he puts it, his office romance with intern Monica Lewinsky was a way for him to deal with stress at work.
